The wild story behind the Suicide Squad game
Plus: We want to hear what episodes you'd like in 2024!
EDIT: Now with a fixed survey!
We have an exciting episode for you today, but first, we want to share our Resties listener survey!
At the beginning of each year, Frushtick and I put together a calendar for The Resties. It helps us think about the types of games, creators, and stories we’d like to cover. We often rearrange the calendar to make room for surprise releases and big news, but we like to have the shape of a plan.
This year, we’d like to hear your feedback. This Google Form will let you pick your three favorite types of episodes from the following ten options. Please only fill out the form one time.
Franchise Playthrough (e.g. a multi-episode series on Dragon Quest)
Overlooked Indie Games (e.g. spotlighting tiny games)
Spoiler Cast (e.g. deep dives into current popular games)
Tier Rankings (e.g. every console, ranked; every Zelda dungeon, ranked)
Video Game History Class (e.g. deep dives into important historical moments in game culture)
Reporting Live from Living Games (e.g. checking in with Fortnite, PUBG, and No Many's Sky)
The Next Big Thing (e.g. What's blowing up on the Steam charts -- or will soon)
What Else You Might Like (e.g. books, movies, and art for Baldur's Gate fans)
Listener Mail Bag (e.g. answering your questions about anything)
Interviews (e.g. a conversation with a popular game designer)
Listen to this week’s episode
When Rocksteady published its entire Batman trilogy within seven years, it became one of the most promising (and prolific) video game studios in the world. But now, seven years since its last major release, Rocksteady has lost its two founders and, seemingly, its creative identity. With its new game Suicide Squad: Kills the Justice League weeks from release, we explain how this developer went from creating the best superhero games of its generation to producing a living game looter shooter. In the back half, Russ shares his thoughts on Cobalt Core. And we have a special survey for listeners at Besties.fan!

Hey guys! Not sure the survey works the way you want it to; it's making me choose "1, 2, or 3" for all 10 rows (rather than picking my top 3).
These are outside of the list of options, but I would love to hear about how you all manage your time playing games. I know you are professionals and it is part of your job, but I think that makes your experiences even more interesting
I would also love to hear about gaming with your kids. I’m always excited whenever we get to hear about games you are playing with your families. I’m really interested in how kids like games you grew up with. What kinds of games are appealing to them. What it’s like for kids to grow up with access to so many games for relatively low cost. Etc. Basically what’s it like for kids these days?
