We love Taskmaster at our house! Great Podcast as always. Thank you for being something we can listen to in the car with our kiddos and not have to worry all that much about what is said.

My favorite segment has become the Honorable Mentions part. I like when they just casually throw out whatever they are playing. Russ mentioned Sanabi and I was curious if anyone else had beautiful pixel games they loved. I adore good pixel art and would like to hear some suggestions. I did enjoy Katana Zero and I’m not sure if this exactly qualifies, but Shovel Knight is one of my favorite games.

Just thought I’d leave my own honorable mention: Roboquest. Borderlands look, doom/ movement shooter combat in a rouge lite packaging. Music is great. It’s on game pass and highly suggest everyone check it out if you like a movement shooter game loop with great music and hard combat!

That game rules so hard. It's like Gunfire Reborn, but with way more interesting moment to moment action. Still love the huge numbers of GR though.

Always a pleasure to hear your perspective of a TV show from the UK. Taskmaster is hit and miss depending on the cast as Griffin points out , but Julien Clary has only become more dry and arch as he ages. Compared to his show in the 90s. Sticky Moments with Julien Clary. Take a peep https://youtu.be/VjDJL9ocqpo?si=6KYSch0ySYSkoSnA

I love the show. The theme tune has gone from mildly upsetting to something that brightens my day. Love to Lady Godwin and Pierre. Dracula deserves what’s coming. Love, Damien (from the UK obvs). Fave game of 2023 Balders Gate. Surprise! X

Russ is right, Dreadwolf isn't going to come out, BUT A WOMAN'S GOTTA HAVE DREAMS.

also, on the note of Jordan's awesome sounding new graphic novel, podcaster and sports enthusiast Jason Kirk's first novel, Hell is a World Without You, would be extremely up Justin and Griffin's alley. a coming of age forbidden love story set in a late 90s/early 00s youth group. “During the time of Pizza Hut buffets, 9/11, and all-night Mario Kart parties, a grieving teenager faces a mortal crossroads: fire-and-brimstone certainty vs. forbidden love. And whether or not you’ve ever begged God to delay the Rapture (so you could have time to lose your virginity), that kid’s story is about you.” I cannot wait to read it since I came from the Catholic version of that kind of youth group and I feel like the McElboys will love it too.

Don’t think silksong can be exclusive to switch because it’s been announced as a day one game pass game. Unless this is just gamepass pc? Also idk if they also saw a pony island 2 from inscryption dev was also in the game awards pre show.

I was coming to ask the same thing; it was definitely announced as day one Gamepass but the supposed date it was arriving came and went ages ago. Not sure what’s going on there

Yeah, it blows my mind how much people associate Silksong with Nintendo. Giant Bomb today said the exact same thing as the Besties today and suggested it could launch with Switch 2. I know that's a possibility, but it's much more of an Xbox game than a Nintendo game at this point.

Also, Griffin's comment about Dragon Age not being a crpg blew me away. It was literally Bioware's spiritual successor to the original Baldur's Gate.

I love you guys celebrating Retro Game Corp! I recently got a steam deck and first thing I did was set up emulation and play Tetris lol

What's the best portable controller for the steam deck?

Probably just an xbox controller? They have Bluetooth built in (I assume steam deck has Bluetooth but not sure)

Seconding this!

I would look at 8 bitdo for controllers. All of their controllers work incredibly well, can be bought Bluetooth or wired and they also work on the switch. Beware, wired controllers have a weirdly hard time with the steam deck. Docked.

Have yall tried playing god of war Valhalla yet? I loved ragnarok, though I agree with your points about the pacing. Valhalla felt like it took all the best parts of GOW and put it in a FREE bite sized package.

They haven't talked about Valhalla I don't think. What a wild dlc though. Heard nothing but good things about it. It's even more wild that's it's free as people seem to be more than happy with it and probably would have bought it if it wasn't free lol

I took a chance on Taskmaster the first time Griffin mentioned it on Wonderful. It has become as big of a part of my life as The McElroys are. (I realize that I have not given any measure of how big a part the boys are; and now I won't out of spite.)

Taskmaster is amazing and every season is wonderful. I'd urge you all to give every season a chance, even the rougher seasons get better once you get to know the people better.

Also, Taskmaster Australia, New Zealand, and other countries in Europe have seasons.

Please please check them all out.

I tell everyone I can about Taskmaster and I hope it gets out more.

There is NO season of Taskmaster that suffers from cast. You guys are nuts. This show is GOLD. Every episode of every season is GOLD. Season 2 has Joe Wilkinson and the potato task will bring tears to your eyes.

Hi!

Have y’all heard of the game Cobalt Core! I know you’ve mentioned Slay The Spire a few times and this functions very similarly in that it’s a deck building roguelike, but I think the changes they made make things interesting and add on some new challenges and allow for a wider variety of strategies and approaches.

Also has a great sense of humor and it’s got animals in space! I’d be curious to see how y’all like it!

I was going to bring this game up another week, cobalt core is fantastic. Every time you play a card, the corresponding adorable crewmate exclaims something that just makes the crew feel more alive.

My honorable mention for the week is Portal: Revolution. It’s a mod for portal 2 that I swear is the closest we’re ever going to get to portal 3. It’s got a full story featuring original characters complete with voice acting, and all the puzzles so far have been super engaging and use the mechanics in really interesting ways. I don’t really play a lot of mods, but this one really blew me away in terms of quality. Seriously, if you’re a portal fan go play it
