On the topic of exceptional Android exclusives, I can't recommend Slice and Dice highly enough. It's a roguelite where you have an adventuring party where each character is a die and it is phenomenally deep. The developer has said they'd like to release it for iOS but they've been working on content updates instead because it's more interesting. https://tann.itch.io/slice-dice
Enjoying the newsletter! And it's always mixed feelings when the game sounds so good that I need to turn the episode off - I'll have to pick this one back up later on.
Oh my sweet lord those stickers are adorable! ALSO/ I need to recommend “my Friendly Neighborhood “- it’s literally Resident Evil 4 set on thr stage of Sesame Street, youre shooting muppets with letter cards. It’s so brilliant and lovingly made
Listen please let me be your hookup for movie accurate totoro merchandise I'm dying. Also yes fine I will get Baldurs gate 3! More like balls ding dong gate I've heard. Love you boyos thanks for doing your thing.
I’m curious if you have any thoughts on how gosh darn easy it is to attack your own party? This is the first CRPG I’ve played (closest game for me is Wildermyth) so maybe I need to just get more used to it. But I’m 30 hours in and have had to reload at least 10 times because in combat, clicking on a character can switch you to their turn OR attack them with your current character’s weapon. Is this just me?
I tried BG3 with my steam deck, and the controls felt very clunky compared to mouse and keyboard for picking among the huge array of spells and abilities you have access to (let alone inventory management), so I was surprised when you all said you've been playing on steam deck. Does this just start to feel more natural after a bit of practice? Or do you play differently on controller, gravitating to a smaller pool of spells and actions, and ruthlessly culling your inventory?
Does it use touch controls? It seems like that would honestly be a very intuitive way to interact and I’ve been debating downloading it on Steam Deck as well
I noticed that the pathfinder games by Owlcat didn’t come up in this discussion. It seems like a miss to me for what modern state of cRPGs looks like. Like BG3 the games are very faithful adaptions of licensed rule sets, but going a different direction being much more literal in the rule interpretation.
Hey guys, just listened to the Baldur's Gate 3 episode, and I think I have a work around on your co-op issue that prevents you from losing any progress.
Instead of reloading to a save from before your friend added a co-op character to your game, you can just go to camp, unequip everything from that character, and then kill them with one of your other characters.
That way you don't lose any progress, and when a friend joins again in the future they can create another new character to join with. They can also use Withers to revive their old character when they rejoin if they like. Hope this helps, it saved me from a few nasty bugs.
Loved the episode. BG3 sounds like it will be a must-buy for me.
One question for anyone that's played a good amount of it. How much of the dialog is voice acted? I would love to try and get a co-op game going with my spouse, but they usually bounce off games that are reading-heavy.
Hey Horstman, from my experience 100% of the dialogue is voice acted. Every character, voices in your head, narrators, etc. It's some of the best I've ever experience in games. Really hope you check it out!
A few years into the console generation and I still only have a Switch, but I now badly want to play BG3 as couch co-op with my spouse but also get the best bang for my buck. No gaming PC and the only Mac I have that will run it is my work computer that I’d prefer not to install it on. If I’m getting a new computer I’d much rather get another Mac for the $$ than build a PC.
What’s the right move for playing BG3 for me? Leaning PS5 but lukewarm after hearing everyone’s “which platform” flowchart.
I feel so validated by the mailbag this week. After the ridiculous fishing episode, I started to think about console exclusives vs mobile exclusives and mobile exclusives feel way shittier. I even wrote a long comment about it on that episode, but decided not to post it. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels a little weird about it. I think it's largely because mobile devices feel much more personal than a console.
It’s probably a long shot, but would you guys ever consider listing games you’ve talked about in past episodes? There’s a few I’ve been interested in trying but I can’t find the titles without listening back through old episodes.

The runes on Russ's (I assume) sticker made my day, thanks for that.

Are you guys going to do a co-op lets play of Baldur's Gate? Like all four of you playing together?

For us, it began to feel more natural after a few hours. There are a few videos on YouTube with tapes for making the most of controller play.

The creepiness of that Totoro smile was Heavily over-exaggerated
Dunno, looks pretty creepy to me...

I think Chris Plante thinks the Guardian is his Fey Patron. I'm here for it.

Sadly we don't have a spreadsheet with the games for every episodes, and it would be a challenge to collect them from the past ten year.
I think someone in the subreddit keeps up with something like this...?
Found it! It’s a good resource, thanks for mentioning it
