I prefer it. I dislike the term Metroidvania somewhat. And I completely dislike the term Soulsborne, which feels like it stems from the same thought process, just far, far less useful as a phrase. I like clean genre tags
Please y'all I am dying for you four to talk about Kingdome Come Deliverance 2 😭 I feel like it has 0 attention paid by all the outlets I pay attention to. I mean you guys would honestly probably just take a dookie on it for 20 minutes, but I love that
Sadly, the developer refused to provide code to Polygon. When asked if the site was being blacklisted, their PR didn't provide comment. The director has a complicated relationship with the press following GamerGate. The Besties is serpate from Polygon, of course. And we might still talk about the game on the show. If we do, it will receive a fair shake. But with so many great games out right now, I'm not in a rush.
Oof, I didn't realize that. They definitely make it a little harder to be such a big fan, lol. Well I hope you guys get to enjoy it anyways. I think some of you would like it more than others, but I definitely think it will offer a lot of interesting discussion outside of weird devs
I don't see a reason to skip over it because of politics but to each their own. The game is dominating the charts and would hate to see you all skip over it while still talking about things like avowed that really didn't hit the mark for most people.
I think it has a ton going for it, especially the sequel so far. This game takes a historical fantasy angle that really isn't common or very well explored, and gives the player a chance to get to know people in 1403 Bohemia. It's a bit punishing, which I think they might bounce off of, but the combat feels really rewarding once you get the hang of it. I has some of the best environment design and quest design that I've seen in a really long time
I know everyone has different tastes but hearing Russ say he hates (or dislikes) PlatinumGames titles hurt me 😭 He’s like my mirror opposite because Platinum joints are my number 1 jam, and I just do not mesh with search action games (especially Hollow Knight).
I have never liked/been good at search action games, but hearing Plante talk about why this one hit for him is making me reconsider... might actually try this one. Especially since it has all those customizable difficulty modifiers
Just a random note that in a method similar to portmaster (you need the game files) you can now play UFO 50 on android. Thought Griffin might be interested for his RP5. Just google around for UFO50 android.
Wanted to recommend void crew! I came across it randomly and haven't seen many people talking about it. Think the rogue like loop of faster than light with the co-op gameplay from sea of thieves.
Me Before Listening to This Episode: "I absolutely adored Ender Lilies, and it quickly became one of my top 5 all time favorite.games, but I'm gonna focus on other games I've been wanting to play before diving into the new one."
I’m so happy one of the gang played a strategy game, even if it was just Civ7. For me personally, Civ2 Golden was the peak of the series but Civ4 is the one I’ve got a stupid amount of hours on.
I cannot for the life of me get any Civ game anymore, simply because I refuse to pay for the DLC model that they and all 4X/grand strategy devs use now. Trickling relatively minor changes and additions then slapping $15 on the product just feels like outright extortion, made worse when the base game is essentially unplayable without them. Not every game needs to live forever 😭
Been playing an "older" (I think it came out ten years ago) shoot em up called ZeroRanger this week. It's on port master so played it on PC and on my RG35XXSP. Love it on both. Very fun, perfect amount of BS for that genre and the music is perfect
Platinum game was Astral Chain which was a top tier cag imo. Thank god for griffin for pointing out that comparisons with hollow knight are fruitless! HK is way more balanced and has a kind of accuracy to gameplay this lacks. Not that it makes it better just a different kind of game with different priorities.
Sorry if I missed it but have they discussed Nine Sols on the podcast before? Combat-wise that has got to be one of the most satisfying metroidvania's I've played last year. Not to mention how amazingly well done the story and presentation are. Really can't recommend it enough!
