If you are hesitant about signing up for the Patreon because of the bit where three quarters of The Besties express the opinion that the Game Cube controller is not just something less than the best method for interfacing with interactive media ever designed but an actively bad controller, let me assure you that it is far and away their worst take and not representative of the quality of the bonus episodes.

I had a physical reaction to Griffin saying the GameCube controller is bad. I've never disagreed with someone on this podcast more. Keep up the great work!

I've never understood the appeal of the GameCube controller. It's a fine controller that's fun to use but some genres feel pretty bad to play on it. Shooters in general feel kinda gross using the tiny C stick with it's notched corners to aim lol

Serious answer: the controller is perfectly designed for hands the size mine were in 2001 when the console came out

Oh 100%. They fit my babey hands perfectly back then and still fit them now. The PS2 fit my hands back then but feel thin and a little flimsy now. Don't have much experience with the duke for the Xbox though. At least not in the last decade lol. I more so have an issue with some of the weird choices Nintendo made when designing it like it's tiny and squishy dpad and triggers that have 30 years of travel time lol. Stuff like the triggers work amazingly for games like Mario Sunshine, smash, and Mario kart but feel really weird with other games. Definitely think the GameCube controller has the best form factor for the time and those controllers are the most durable controllers I've ever owned by far

I have to defend the Nintendo 64 controller.

Did it shred my palm? Yes. Is the trident design absolutely baffling in 2024? Yes. Did anyone know how to hold it when they first picked it up? No.

But it WORKED FOR THE SYSTEM. It's a mess of a controller if you try to apply the layout to any other system. But 3D games like Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time, 2D platformers like Mischief Makers, 2D or 3D fighters... It just worked!

At least in my memory. I haven't used one in about a decade 😅

I think it should be mentioned that the Wii also has a pro controller which was way better than the game cube controller. So if that argument holds water with the switch, then it must with the Wii.

I feel like I’m going insane. Wasn’t there a flip up screen for the PS2 as well??

I love the N64 cause nostalgia. So it hurt (in a funny way) to have it absolutely dunked on and taken out to dry. I never got the Dreamcast but I accept your judgement on dreamcast de best. Rip N64

Wait, how did dreamcast win because of the VMU? It didn't come with the console and had to be bought separately. You made that argument against the switch with pro controller.

How did the Wavebird not come up in the GameCube conversation? It made the excellent controller even better and pioneered wireless controllers

I LOVE the GameCube controller, never had anything been more comfortable in my hands

The vita is the best handheld ever fight me in the comments. Full PSP (and PS1) backwards compatibility. Full social features comparable to console. Launch OLED had the best screen on any handheld at the time. The two analogue sticks it had were goated. I could literally go on for hours. Also, the Vita was the only place to play Persona 4 Golden for about 10 years until it got ported elsewhere lol

For home console it's gotta be Dreamcast. Excellent vibes. Features ahead of its time. The controller's got a screen on it with the VMU. Online play on console. It even got Seaman and Shenmue. C'mon people lol

I’m here just to say the Nintendo 64 is my favourite console. The Switch is great too though.

What is the best waterproof handheld emulator console? Thinking for use on a beach trip or while floating in the pool.
