Just throwing this out there. I also cried at Godzilla Minus One. That movie rules.

If we’re manifesting I’m going with Dark Cloud 3

Huh. Looks like Level-5 is releasing an enhanced, English-language version of a giant mech game called Megaton Musashi this year. Has anyone played the original? There’s an anime too.

One giant one y'all (understandably) left off is the return of NCAA Football! Back for the first time in a decade, now compensating the players involved! I always found that series MUCH better than Madden, even if madden got the more polished features and updates. It always played looser than madden, much like the actual sports, and thus more fun to me. Though there is fear it'll just be a madden reskin, supposedly they've built it from the ground up.

my long shot guess is a complete fangirl moment… Dragon Age Dreadwolf. is it because I need an excuse to play Inquision again? sure. but hot diggity shit I want it real bad.

I cried SO much during Godzilla: Minus One. The themes of how surviving in a world that sees your life as expendable and overcoming seeing your own life as expendable... for real, please watch it, y'all.

Anywho, video games. Infinite Wealth will probably be my AAA goty. It's predecessor was a huge hit for me. Ichiban is such a likable character and the turn-based combat is stupid fun.

I'm HOPING for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, but some of the news about the state that Bioware is in AND the announcement saying "we'll talk more about the game Q2 2024" doesn't give me hope for a 2024 release date but oh well.

Yall I just finished BG3 after ~200 hours and I'm convinced that Griffin's mind in the GOTY episode would be changed if he replayed the final fight + endings. I can absolutely see how crushing it would have been to feel denied a conclusion, but the current finale (no spoilers) felt epic, respectful, promising - and offered a lot of closure. Seriously, I teared up.

I’m glad you said that. I’ve put about 40 hours into the game, and I’m still in Act 1, but I was worried how the ending was handled. Hearing Griffin made me a little nervous.

The epilogue update was massive — I finished the game before that update and thought the ending was pretty bad (it was by far my biggest complaint about the game, was just sad to feel so invested in these wonderful characters that had such good writing and acting, and have basically no resolution for most of them other than like one line about "yay we did it") but from everything I've seen of the new epilogue it addresses all my complaints and then some in terms of feeling like each character has a proper sendoff and that your influence/choices in various quests had an impact. I was honestly originally not super motivated to finish out the game on my second run because of the ending but now I'm really looking forward to seeing the epilogue.

That’s nice to hear. I’m really taking my time with it since I’m still learning D&D and this is my first Balder’s Gate game. This might sound random but I’ve been playing on an older PC and it is struggling. I thought about getting it for PS5, but I’m not sure how the controller would be. How did you play it?

Expand full comment

Haha I'm actually on PS5 right now but hoping to finally build a PC soon and swap to BG3 on that! I would say the controller gameplay is... fine... one kind of nice benefit to controller is that you can swap between "click" to move vs just directly moving with the joystick, and the latter can feel a bit more immersive. The radials feel a bit janky though — reorganizing them is tedious but the default organization is also a bit of a mess, and there's a few small things that just aren't there on console (for example, you can't see numerical values for companion approval, nothing major). However I've played like 200+ hours of the game on controller and still have several runs in progress so it's obviously very workable! There's been crash issues with splitscreen co-op for me in the last month, but my solo game has been quite stable (knock on wood) and only fully crashed very rarely (compared to some friends on older PCs who have had a lot more crashes) and the graphics look fine. So if it's been painful on your PC it could definitely be worth swapping to PS5 (and as you've probably heard, Act 3 is particularly performance-intensive, so if you're having issues in Act 1 it will likely be worse in Act 3 unfortunately).

Good call! I didn’t consider the populated areas later. Yeah, I may have to switch to console. I do enjoy the PC controls... Then again, it might be nice to play the game without it sounding like a jet engine. I really appreciate the input.

Consider: let Frushtick skip the Infinite Wealth episode, bring in Kazuma Hashimoto to explain all the wild shit that goes over our gaijin heads.

Does anyone think Concerned Ape is going to go ham and have Haunted Chocolatier release in 2024? What I wouldn’t do to have that game in my life

I think there’s a small chance! It certainly seems like he hasn’t found a way to part with Stardew yet, though, haha! Mind you, I’m absolutely not complaining-- I’m stoked for any update we get, but it’s MORE than finished. Of course, I don’t want to speculate on his ability to divvy up his time. All this to say, I would love for your prediction to come true!

I am shocked that Griffin has not played Thousand Year Door, a game which I subconsciously assumed had formed a significant amount of his vibe. I am excited for him to play

The lack of Silksong is kinda funny to me. I know the fans are gonna go feral when it finally gets an announced date, but to be strung along this badly surely has taken some of the goodwill of the fans, right?

I am super excited for Rise of the Golden Idol! I just played the second DLC a couple weeks ago (totally missed it coming out) and I can’t wait to have a whole new game to get sucked into

Expand full comment

I’m not sure where else to stick this prediction but here is my called shot: Silksong will be a launch title/timed exclusive for the Switch 2

Expand full comment

That would make so much sense to me. Not necessarily exclusive but if some point in development they received specs from Nintendo on the switch 2 and started optimizing it for that and then Nintendo internally pushed back the release date and Team Cherry just can’t say anything until Nintendo makes an announcement. Maybe that’s being too generous idk.

Totally agree with Justin’s feelings about Godzilla Minus One, and I also cried a few times while watching it. But his description of the plot is not how I remember it going at all!

Do want to throw out a classic crpg style game that came out from owlcat from beta recently. Rogue trader. It’s based on the 40k rogue trader system and boy howdy does it deliver.

Lasers and rocket bullets? Check

Chainswords? Check

Space elves? Check

Actual developed plot and characters??? Check and check (very rare for 40k)

Don’t come in expecting bg3, but if you want a very good classic crpg this is a great option.

They even did the fun rule from the system where if you over use magic you can have a random chance of bad things happening, including summon enormous demons who will absolutely wreck you.

Ps if you like fantasy better than grim dark space stuff. Wrath of the righteous, and kingmaker are based of pathfinder and are all great
