Love the Slay the Princess shoutout! Didn't realize it and Scarlet Hollow had such good accessibility options. I know Farm RPG has screen reader options they're regularly improving, but I don't use it so I can't say how good it is.
For other idle games -- A Dark Room and Kittens Game most remind me of Universal Paperclips (maybe mostly in appearance but the ios version of ADR has some interesting plot stuff) and they're available on iOS, Android, and browser.
Merge Mayor, Love and Pies, and Necomerger are three I'm going through right now (on Android though I'm pretty sure they're all available on iOS) and they have ads, but it's all optional and for Necromerger, you can pay (a little more than I'd prefer) to permanently remove all ads.
Ones I'm not currently playing but gotta recommend -- Alter Ego, which has an actual end point (three endings!) and personality quizes, and Merge Meadow which is super cute. Both of those also have optional ads.
Can you tell I like idle games (and mobile games in general)? lol
I loved Russ' momentary belief that there is a type of guy out there who insists that Swimming with Sharks is a Christmas movie. "Oh yeah, I've got a fire going and poured myself a cup of eggnog, now it's time to kick back in Xmas PJs and watch Kevin Spacey scream at Frank Whaley."
Quick question. I have limited funds for gaming so I don't typically have the ability to buy the latest and greatest games (at their 50-70 dollsr price tag). Do yall have any suggestions on how to game on a budget but still have a good time. Maybe some good options or resources on how to wade through the miasma of "great deals" category on the Nintendo e shop?
I'm not a bestie, but what sort of systems do you have? Maybe a game-pass a la PlayStation or the Xbox Game Pass might be your jam? Nintendo's yearly sub for online and retro games is also well worth it, tons of classic gems in that offering.
I'd also recommend the DekuDeals site because A.) it's way easier to scroll through than the eShop when you want to look at the current sales. B.) you can create a wishlist of games that you're interested in and get notified as those games go on sale in the future. Those notification settings can be modified to be more specific based on your desired price &/or what format you'd be willing to buy (Digital vs Physical).
Totally, thanks for the advice. My game budget it more a situation of "dope a few extra bucks this months that isnt going to another hobby fund" so some of the subscription services aren't really a huge option (even at their relatively reasonable prices).
I've been eyeing Mario and rabids for a minute and hope Dave the diver will go on sale soon (or might just bite the bullet and get it)
The first Mario+Rabbids game is one of my favorites on the Switch. It is seriously so fun and is always on sale pretty cheap (even for the deluxe edition). I have not played the second one yet but hopefully next year. This stranger on the internet gives his wholehearted endorsement for the first one though.
I'm curious if any of the besties have any "bugs" in games that actually improve their experience with the game. The one that comes to mind is the insane ragdoll physics in Soulsborne games.
A second for Alter Ego as a clicker game - it’s wild how a clicker game can tackle Freud, Jung, and the existentialists. Don’t play it if you’re in a rough head space.
I love the MGS retrospective yall have been hitting up this year. And while I definitely understand why you don’t feel particularly inclined to hit up MGS4, I still think there’s an opening there for MGS5. That game *rips* (even if it doesn’t have Our One True Solid Snake, David Hayter doing the voice) and is very easy to play on modern consoles.
If the count of the episodes in the newsletter is right then this Resties makes 365 episodes of the Besties! Congrats on a whole year of best of the year shows. <3
I'm so glad the newsletter exists! I remembered Justin speaking on a fun rogue-like mobile game last week, and it being listed right there in the newsletter made it faster and easier than scrubbing through the episode. The quality of life as a Besties listener has never been better!
Hi Resties/Besties! I loved the CHRIStmas spirit in this episode! Any recommendations for Christmas themed games?
We got you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAN7w8wYD4U
Thanks Besties!
I know Justin talked about Ebeneezer and the Invisible World, it dropped a little bit ago, was wondering if anyone's dipped in yet?

Had a hard time getting into Castle Crashers, really didn’t get that game at all. But AHI looks really great! Thanks for the tip!
And with persona 5 tactics, do you need to have played the whole of 5 to enjoy its story? 5 was just too long for me to complete.

Switch only at the moment

Awesome that's super helpful. The Nintendo e shop is just so hard to navigate
great! there's ton of good and cheap offerings on there!
Night in the Woods
Mario + Rabbids 1 and 2
Dave the Diver
Vampire Survivors
and the top tier version of the online service is $50 a year.
Does that help?

The Besties need to take a look at Super Crazy Rhythm Castle, it had me roaring!

Regarding Christmas, I’m mostly done with my shopping for the season but I don’t put up the Christmas stuff until December 1st.

Have any of you gotten your hands on Coral Island?
Version 1 finally dropped yesterday (11/14) and I'm enjoying getting back into this visually stunning Asian take on a farming sim.
Have yall seent lethal company? Me and my buddy just got it, it's a wild time.

Glad to see KarmaZoo getting love. I played it with my ten year old daughter at Pax Aus and we had a blast.
