Subbed for a year. Thanks for over ten years of dedication and providing fun and entertainment. Not kidding when I say the show helped get me through some tough times.

Can we get AD free versions of the main feed in the patreon feed?

Not for now due to some general complexities. But we'll consider this in the future. Thanks for asking!

Paid for a year up front!

I’m hoping this Patreon cash will push you to get the PS3 out of the attic and do a bonus episode on MGS4! 😜🤞

I am honestly a little surprised by the full-paywall move for Resties as opposed to some of the Patreon recommendations in the discussion for the last episode (delayed release, etc) but I understand the rationale better with the ad-splitting and stuff as it was explained in this post.

As someone who’s never subbed to Patreon and am interested, but not in a position to jump in right now, I am also a little sad that it sounds like the last episode of Resties was, well, the last episode (for me and others, for now) without us even knowing it, too, instead of having like a goodbye episode or something - but hey that happens with beloved tv shows all the time and it’s not the end of the world.

At the end of the day, every podcast I listen to and I think most professionally made podcasts out there tend to stick to a weekly format, and we are still getting that with the main show, so I don’t think there’s much to complain about here strictly from a non-paying listener standpoint.

I am also just genuinely happy for the hosts trying something new that might buy the show more runway and at least bring it some new energy for the time being. I would also have been totally okay with a hiatus while they figured things out - I really don’t like feeling like a creator is burning themselves out just to pump out content for me. So in the grand scheme of things, I still get a fun weekly show and the people making it are building out a more robust foundation to rest all of their creative vehicles on. Cool. I hope it makes for a good year and once I clear a really major expense coming up for myself mid-year, I’d like to hop into that subscriber pool and see what all this Patreon business everyone’s been talking about for years is up to.

Good luck guys, love the show, and man am I looking forward to the HellDivers discussion!

This is the most composed expression of mixed feelings I've seen in a comments section, and I just want to say I appreciate it! (And can't wait to catch up on Helldivers!!)

If I could reply with an aw shucks gif I would, but yeah I might have been parsing through my reaction live there.

Good luck guys!

Subbed!

That being said, I don't love that the content about the more affordable games (indies) is what ended up behind the paywall. Feels bad to me. There's no way to structure this so everyone can hear everything?

Totally understand, but we'll still be covering a ton of indies (and affordable games) on Besties! We'll also make sure to keep people informed of fun new indie releases through the newsletter.

And thank you for subbing!

That’s a good point. I think the idealist version of a Patreon is one where exactly zero additional content is behind the paywall, and it just so happens that enough people with means who care to financially support a creator do so; that way those without means can keep listening and not lose out on anything. Unfortunately, that’s just too risky an experiment to run in terms of sustainability… we live in a society I resent capitalism etc etc

Yeah I know... But us? Right here in our lil video game book club? Maybe we can make it work this time.

Subbed for a year and honestly it feels great. Ten years of free content is basically highway robbery. Hope you guys can keep it going for a while and have half as much fun making the show as we do listening to it.

Signed up today for the Patreon! Also, quick suggestion: Why not start a feature called “The Spoilies” where you guys talk about the endings of games with full spoilers. There are so many games I’ll never play, and I’d love to hear you all talk about them.

So happy to support your patreon! Been a fan for many years and I've said as soon as you start a patreon I'd subscribe. Just paid for a year! Best of luck and I hope this allows Besties to be more sustainable for the foreseeable future. PS, please bring Ron Funches onto as many episodes (bonus or otherwise) as possible. He's such a great hilarious addition any time he's on.

I just have to say, finally! I directly support all of my other favorite podcasts, so subbing for a year was a no brainer. Thank you all for all you do to make elder millennial gamers without enough gaming time feel seen.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedication. I really appreciate you still putting out an episode for free. I would love to give you money, but a caregiver’s salary doesn’t allow for that. (It also doesn’t make sense for me, since I can’t play any of the games you discuss.) I just want you to know how grateful I am for all you’ve done. Keep up the good work! ♥️

I came down here to ask this, specifically if I'll see comments for Resties episodes in my existing RSS feed. I'm going to set up a Patreon account soon but I'm wondering if it will work with the reader I'm using now.
