When Russ rides a horse he thinks “wow I am a horse now”

Yoshi yes, Mineru no.

Mineru is controlled by... Link. So no.

The egg is totally intended to introduce Yoshi. So yes.

This was my thought too but... Is she controlled by link? Or is he on her back but she is still deciding where to go? I think it's slightly ambiguous but I voted no because I assumed Link is somehow taking direct control when he hops on the back, especially since it uses his power pack.

Link is visibly holding controls and piloting.

He's not, he's just holding onto handles. If you want "visibly piloting", check out how exuberantly he yanks around the steering stick on any other Zonai device...

Ok I actually think lore-wise it would be hilarious if that was true. Imagine if in the middle of battle Link just takes a break, climbs up on Mineru's construct, holds on and does nothing while Mineru fights.

Even if there was some way in hell people voted that mineru counted as a separate character, it would be as a technicality and Russ would have to take the points with an asterix.

It’s kinda funny how Yoshi is the answer to both. You wouldn’t say that you play *as* Yoshi in Super Mario World, Sunshine, Galaxy 2 etc. you’re just riding him the same way you’re riding Mineru-bot. That’s specifically called out as different in games like Mario Wonder.

And I’m willing to accept the sequel to ultimately prove me wrong, but until I am proven otherwise, I have to assume that is capital Y Yoshi’s egg. It would be the oddest directing if it was anything but. And that absolutely fits the spirit of the prediction as he’s associated with his egg as closely as Mario is his hat. If you made a Zelda movie and the post credit scene just had the skull kid laugh and the mask laying on the ground youd say he was there for the scene. As for the egg that was at the wedding, I’m not convinced it is necessarily the same egg. It definitely can’t be proven it is beyond reasonable doubt. That’s the logic of my vote at least.

Even if it turned out not to be Yoshi, the filmmakers would have set you up to believe that on purpose allowing them to subvert it in the sequel. For now, it’s Yoshi.

My favourite playable character in totk is that one car I built from random debris I found lying around

My favorite playable character was every korok that I controlled, trying to reach their buddies while magically suspended a few feet off the ground . Link might have stayed close by but that's irrelevant.

Really curious how much they'll charge for this one. The Ayaneo Air was already leading cheaper. I'm thinking at best $400 but who knows!

This has gotta be by far the fastest turnaround from Resties prediction to announcement. Possibly an unbreakable record even.

I just came here to post the same! And it looks like it's going the lower-powered route as well.

I can see this having a place. I rarely use my Steam Deck for more demanding games anyway, 1-2 hr battery life isn't very fun, and I'd rather use my PC/monitors for AAA experiences. It's mainly an indie machine. SteamOS has also been pleasant.

YouTube is already getting into/into games! I think it’s still a beta but you can opt in to playing games on their app.

Basically at the same state Netflix was a year ago or so.

Yes! So far the games seem very veeery bare bones. But curious to see if they'll expand it more.

I respect the hustle, but it feels like the argument for Mineru would also have to apply to like… the horse in Elden Ring

Voted yes for Mineru just cause Plante gave you such a hard time about Yoshi for no reason.

Russ, I love you. Bring back New York Giraffe. But Mineru is absolutely not a playable character in the way we all understand the spirit of the question. However, the egg scene at the end of the Mario movie *was* an introduction to capital Y Yoshi and it's really hard to interpret it any other way. A single yoshi egg in a shot that was missed by most viewers is more like an easter egg than a reveal.

I really hope Remedy remains independent. Between them and Larian in 2023, it's just been really nice seeing independent studios that have been around for literal decades finding continued success in just doing what they want to do, making the games they want to make.

If Toon Link, Link, and Young Link are different characters in Smash Bros, Ancestor Form Link is a different character in Tears of the Kingdom!

If Ancestor Form Link is a different character in Tears of the Kingdom, Dark Link is a different character in Smash Bros. and should be listed separately from Link on tier lists.

Exactly! Each Link is a different character even if all of their names are Link, and many have different abilities. But even if they have the same abilities, two different people are still two different characters! A Daisy and Peach to continue the Smash example

I came in skeptical but the more I think about it, the more I come around to Mineru being a slam dunk in terms of being an alternate playable character. They have a completely different moveset - and the key difference between them and a car is that they are clearly sentient!

Yoshi though, no dice. If the implication of Yoshi by way of an egg counts, it also counts earlier in the movie.

Love the new draft format!

Too funny - I came away the exact opposite. Mineru feels like a very nice Zonai machine that you, as link, get to control.

I think the fact the egg is prominently featured with the Yoshi sound-effect in a credits scene feels like a nailed prediction to me

Isaac Maddow-Zimet's avatar

But Mineru talks and has feelings! That’s what swayed me in the end - zonai machines that you build aren’t sentient (or if they are, I feel really bad for repeatedly disassembling them!)

Fair fair -- but is it so different from balling up Yonobo and firing him at a wall?

Expand full comment
Isaac Maddow-Zimet's avatar

That’s fair. But can you actually control Yonobo while he’s rolling (genuinely can’t remember)? I guess I think of that as Link aiming him and Yonobo retaining control (as opposed to being truly player controlled)

Though I agree it’s not what he meant by “playable character”, the moment I was riding around on Mineru I felt like I was playing as a fully different character. The game set the first sequence with Mineru aside to be fully played as her (her soul in a robot, to be fair). It felt as much like playing as another character as the character switches in games like Witcher 3, if not more unique. I know this is a losing battle, but I'm fighting it lol.

Yoshi after credits scene was spot on—absolutely no doubt.
