It is maddening that The Besties went through the entire Pepper Grinder discussion without mentioning Drill Dozer once. If you haven't checked it out, it's a drill-based platformer by Game Freak that released on GBA (with a rumble cartridge to "feel the drill") and is likely a huge inspiration for Pepper Grinder.
Super bummed y’all aren’t feeling FF7 Rebirth honestly. Everyone has different opinions and that’s fine. For me, it was the game I imagined as a kid, when the original idea of the remake was floated. The only comparison I find unfair is the simplification of the story to “Marvel,” which I think has become a shorthand for any conversation about alternate universes.
If anyone is looking for a deeper convo about the game that’s a little less harsh, I recommend Triple Click’s recent eps.
They said it's probably not the answer I wanted, and it wasn't haha. But yes, everyone has different opinions, and I'm enjoying it and hoping that a lot of others are too! I fully get the exhaustion from the open-world sections, even if I don't agree with the other qualms; however, I think the game does well at breaking up the intel stuff with quality character interactions--you really have to be in for the ride, though. I definitely disagree with the Marvel thing, and I love what they've done with the story (I haven't finished the last 1/4th of the game yet, and I've been able to avoid all spoilers). One disclaimer: The Besties don't seem to like Kingdom Hearts, and I looooove KH, so I'm always in for any way Square Enix wants to make a sometimes-convoluted story.
Just my thoughts on the game, but I respect The Besties' opinion!
Yoooo I was wrong last week. What we need is a mod for Dragon's Dogma where both Griff and Justin provide voices for the pawns. They say all the same stupid lines but it's gotta include their laughter and delight with just how fucking stupid the lines are. Plus riffing on it, like "I know this is probably the 100th time I've told you this, Arisen, but... THAT LADDER LOOKS LIKE A GOOD ONE!"
Talking about games that kids like, I immediately had a flood of all my memories of the early LEGO Star Wars games. I think those games are extremely good, especially for kids. They have a ton of interactive content, including letting you beat up NPCs until they explode, everyone runs around and tries to kick your ass, then you explode. Hilarious. The cutscenes made the very good decision to cut the voice lines and do charades to communicate the plot, something the new games mostly got rid of in favor of just using voice acting. Excellent games for kids, 10/10.
Second thought:
Another game that I love that is getting a huge content update (and one that I think none of the Besties would sit through playing because they aren't a sicko colony sim pervert like me) is Rimworld. It's about to get it's next big DLC, Anomaly. It's a sci-fi Lovecraftian, Cronenbergian, horror and mystery themed dlc. Horrible flesh monsters, dark alien machine gods thirsting for blood, psychic cults. You know, the good shit! I'm very excited to play it when it releases next week.
I played so much Freddy fish when I was a kid anybody else? What are those Junior adventure games that you played as a kid that the guys were talking about?
putt-putt! The 1992 anthropomorphic automobile! Looks like a kid version of Benny the taxicab from Roger Rabbit. It was a children’s point and click adventure game. Good stuff right there.
Yesss Freddy Fish and Putt Putt were my jam! I still have vivid memories of Putt Putt Saves The Zoo, getting to paint him different colors and everything. It’s fun to hear that they still hold up for kids now :)
Kinda but not really related, Did anyone else play any of the jumpstart games? I was only allowed to play jumpstart 5th grade the entire year of 98 or 99. I can repeat all the dialog in that game verbatim. The voice actors went WAY HARDER than I bet they were paid to.
I wonder if you ever revisited or revise your opinion on a game. I’ve been playing Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 and while the open world activities can become quite repetitive, it is a visually stunning game. I remember Chris in particular being particularly harsh on the visuals .
Hello Besties! Question for you video game enthusiasts.
Do any of you guys watch any e-sports? I'm currently watching the Korean Starcraft League when I should be working and was curious if anyone of you watch e-sports?
And anyone else in the comments! I'd love to start watching over e-sports!
Dragons Dogma 2 has its claws deep down in me. I cant stop playing. Coming up on 70 hours now.
Magic archer is honestly the most fun class I've used, which isn't usually my thing. I might 100% it tbh, which I don't think I've ever cared to do in a game.
I’m really glad Justin brought up the character creator stuff in DD2, because man it really has been so nice to be able to play a fantasy game as a fat character. And even just seeing npcs in the world that aren’t supermodels! That was one of my biggest issues with Baldur’s Gate 3 and it’s such a relief in comparison. The game obviously isn’t perfect but that stuff matters so so much.
One other thing! If you live in SoCal, come see Spy x Family's new movie with Plante and Polygon for free!!

Plante, we wanna know what swag you picked up at KneeCon. Or wait, was it ElbowCon? Something pervy like that, Justin said so.

Justin needs to do a Beetljuice costume for Halloween please. Also when is Toescon 2025?

When I was a kid, Tetris was my rainy-day game. I could play for hours, chasing the next level.
Now, I play Halo 3 in god-mode or if I’m on my phone, Drop 7
Where's today's post @TheBesties?! Can tell us to view the list and not post it :(
Oh dip I need to finish Like a Dragon. I’m at Chapter 12 and woefully underleveled.
Hey Besties! This weekend is the Ludum Dare 55 Game Jam. Just wondering, will y’all be reviewing any of the games that are made for the event?
