So regarding the weapon degrading issues Justin brought up, I learned recently there's actually another part of the gameplay loop regarding that. If you break a decayed weapon, pristine versions will start showing up in the depths held by those shades, so the game really does reward you in a way for experimenting and breaking weapons. It's not perfect or ideal but I thought it was a really cool addition and something I wish I knew at the start.
Please tell Griffin not to worry. My nephew used to tell my sister all the time that her teeth were yellow. She has wonderful teeth, but it’s impossible to keep up with society’s standards.
Big fan of the show, appreciate your recommendations for games and other media. Just downloaded the Audiobook of Trust . If Justin -books level boring - McElroy likes it I figured it's worth a shot.
My only quibble with the structure of the story was the parallel tracks of collecting the sages / doing dungeons, and collecting the dragon tears that told mostly the same story of the imprisoning war. I finished the dragon tears very early, after only one or two temples since it was such a cool mystery, so the sage/dungeon storyline of Zelda’s appearances was a little anticlimactic knowing where she is. (Ed: you really only need one or two dragon tears to get some sense of this.) Headcanon is that Link knows but is keeping it secret, but some nod to having that knowledge would be nice (not sure what that nod would look like tbh).
As always, this was an absolutely wonderful hang! I'm hoping to play it eventually but between the cost and my just like exceedingly poor gaming abilities, I haven't gotten my hands on it at all yet. I think a creative mode like you were talking about would be huge for me, honestly! I would love to be able to just play in the world without worrying that im gonna get stuck in an area or end up completely frustrated. Love the work you guys do!! :)
I love that you included the “non game stuff” you enjoyed this week. I always listen when I do night feedings with my baby and never remember what it was in the morning. Already ordered that book!
Thanks Besties for holding off on the Zelda spoiler episode, but also not for not holding off for too long!
I decided to enter endgame in the week preceding this podcast and i'm so glad I did because i'd been putting it off for hours/days. I ended the game somewhere between Griffin and Russ's completion state. I was at 235+ hours according to my Switch games list. All shrines, complete depths lit up (got my medallion), bubbuls up until Koltin asks for 88 more (fuck that), and full Fierce Deity gear upgraded to the max (some people probably think Barbarian is better to do that with but I find Lynels so difficult to beat).
The reason I say thanks for not holding off for too long, is because, like some of you guys I too wasn't expecting the ending to be as completely mental as it was. I yelped with glee and fear when Gannon's health bar filled back up again and kept going.
I've never used substack before, so hope this whole thing works out well for you guys.

The comment section is already so nice!!

Ohhh thanks for the heads up!

i would just like to say that Russ called me “The Last Swearbear” instead of “The Last Swearbender” but i like his better so no hard feelings 😌
Love you sweet boys, another great episode was so excited to hear your opinions on dragon Zelda!

Finally a Radiohead shoutout! Everyone listen to Radiohead or die
Listen to OK Computer in its entirety is my suggestion
