The Keyser Soze video was pretty funny, but even funnier are all the comments that just did NOT get it.

Game tip if you love obra din, outer wilds and the case of the golden idol

Hey guys, I recently head about a game called shadows of doubt. It is a puzzle game where you solve a murder in an immersive sim style city. It is overwhelmingly positive on steam. people seem te love it for the same reason they love the games I mentioned before. The game lets you figure it out yourself and makes you feel smart with incredible “aha!” Moments.

It’s out on steam and will come out on PS5 later this year. (That’s why this PS boy can’t play it yet) It sounds like something you would like.

I think with our sense of humor, I'm really looking forward to playing Thank Goodness You're Here with my husband, trading the controller back and forth. it feels like it'll play well there.

more than anything, I cannot WAIT to hear y'all talk about The Operator. as mentioned in a past comment, I immediately downloaded it after y'all mentioned it and I devoured it in two days. I'd love to hear you talk about the difficulty bell curve in games like this. I really enjoyed it but honestly (minus one dang bomb-based puzzle) it felt almost more like a visual novel than a puzzle game because the puzzles felt relatively easy. comparing it in my brain to trying to track shoes and hammock tags in Obra Dinn, beating my head against the wall trying to get the sand temple timing right in Outer Wilds, or having to do so much math to finish Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, and it's hard to feel like The Operator put up much of a challenge. nothing wrong with that necessarily, I'm curious about y'all's thoughts on difficulty in puzzle games like these!

I for one would LOVE to see more Sea of Thieves from Griffin. Possibly a series on YouTube?

Hi! My wife and I just had a baby! Any suggestions for portrait mode iPhone games I can play when I’m not staring lovingly at my tiny overlord? Ideally something that my brain can handle during 4am feedings.

Hey y'all. I'm requesting you change your book links. Now, if you're getting a little $$ kick-back from Amazon please ignore. If not, though, please switch your book links to bookshop.org. You can shop indie bookstores around the country. You can choose to order from your favorite bookstore, or let bookshop decide. It's a great opportunity to support bookstores just trying to survive capitalism. Thanks for considering!

Justin isn't crazy. When you boot up Thank Goodness You're Here, it does specifically say on the second screen, "Based on the original novel by Cousin Susan."

Hey besties! Just listened to the new episode and I'm loving thank goodness you're here!

Griffin, have you or Justin played the escape from monkey Island dlc for sea of theives? I love the base game but hadn't tried it until last night. It's so much fun it's like a cool blend of point and click puzzles with sea of theives gameplay and I'm loving it so far!

This would be more relevant on the 2024 recap episode BUT Prince of Persia The Lost Crown just launched with ATL on Steam and Animal Well is discounted as part of an indie fest on Steam so two of the best Steam Deck games of the year are within $5 for me and I’m struggling to pick between the two.

Steam Deck gang is eating too good right now :|

I’m playing Red Dead Redemption 2 right now, for the first time, and it is kind of jarring how that game has the gold, silver and bronze medals system for every story mission. It doesn’t guide you towards the goals of the mission medals in any way and you don’t know about them until the end of the mission, and if anything the game conditions you in the opposite direction.

For example, the game seems to really want you to move slowly, to soak in the world (Arthur walks slow, you have to move slowly while hunting to not spook animals, there isn’t really fast travel for a while and it’s not good), and at the same time you’ll get a bronze for not completing a mission where you have to track a big ass bear in under 12 minutes. I’m not gonna know that I should be trying to play that way u til after I complete the mission, and at that point I don’t want to replay it and speed run that shit, and also I feel like that’s the opposite of how the game wants you to play it in the first place.

Compare that to Neon White where it’s so clearly baked into the DNA of the game that you want to min-max every level and it just seems so out of place in RDR2 of all games. I’m glad for the ability to replay missions though, even if I’m still really early on so far

Is there a purpose to the medals? Do you need certain number of points/medals to progress the story or are they just there for "replay value"?

Good question!

I genuinely do not know. I’ve only done like 6 missions and as far as I can tell I don’t get rewards for higher rank medals. I guess it just irks me that it shows up after missions if there isn’t really a point to it, like how Russ says why bother shoving it in the player’s face?

But it’s not a big deal. There are also Challenges (eg Kill three rabbits while on horseback) that do actually give you exp for stats. Tbh as a beginner the game is overwhelming, it’s Tooltip City.

Well

My day is ruined. Justin made me realize that I still remember all the lyrics to the Great Mighty Poo song. 🤣

Also: discussing World of Goo 2 after mentioning The Great Mighty Poo confused my brain every time I heard "Goo" 😶

You guys briefly discussed the cost value of a game. (In a different ep). But I wanted to share. My metric is based around $1/hr of gameplay. So if you buy a $20 game and put in 100hrs, you’re golden! But if you buy an $80 game and beat it in an afternoon (I’m thinking like Pokemon Tekken, or Super MarioStrikers on the Switch) well that’s not a great value.

What do you guys think of that metric?

Hey Besties! I've been following a Paper Mario spiritual successor for some time and know that at least a couple of you lamented Origami King and wanted something more like the original and Thousand Year Door. I know you guys really like Bug Fables and Sea of Stars (stellar games) and thought you guys would like Escape from Ever After. There is a free demo on steam and it's got the same silly humor and fun turn based combat.

Dear Besties,

As an adult without children, I am often with my friends who DO have little kids - and often I just want those little booger eaters to shut up for a second so we can have an adult conversation.

As parents, what are your recommendations for the best mobile games I can keep on my phone to distract them so I can have a brief moment of peace and quiet ?

Juice! I'm not sure if it's too late to ask, or if you'll see this. Bit I plan to "hog out" this weekend and want to make your snack mix for munchies. I was thinking of adding cashews. Anything other new ingredients to your mix that you recommend?
